After graduating from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah in May of 2004, Ryan Stout began his legal career working for a Southern Utah law firm that focuses on helping people who weren’t being treated fairly after being injured on the job, as well as helping people with various types of personal injury claims. He developed a passion for helping people that were not being treated fairly by big insurance companies. He took that same passion with him when he joined Douglas D. Terry & Associates, a Southern Utah boutique criminal defense firm in October of 2005. His passion for “sticking up for the little guy” was a perfect fit for what turned into his true professional passion — vigorously defending individuals who have been accused of committing a crime.  Ryan has been practicing exclusively in the area of criminal defense since 2005.  Ryan joined Schatz Anderson Egan and Wormdahl in January 2026.

If you have been accused of committing a crime — whether the accuser is an individual, a local city, county, the State of Utah, or the Federal Government, you need to have someone on your side who is committed to protecting you from being treated unfairly. Ryan Stout strives to handle every case and every client, with the attention they deserve — whether the case is a relatively “simple” misdemeanor case, a serious felony charge, or a complex federal indictment.

Ryan Stout has successfully handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases throughout Southern Utah Justice and District Courts, as well as hundreds of felony cases in Federal Court. Ryan is one of a small number of attorneys in Southern Utah that is on the “CJA panel”— a select list of attorneys with the specialized knowledge, training, and experience to accept court appointed cases in Federal court. He has argued in front of the Utah Court of Appeals as well as the Supreme Court of Utah. Ryan has successfully handled some of the most high-profile cases in Southern Utah.  Additionally, Ryan has also successfully defended 6 capital homicide cases, as well as numerous other non-capital homicide cases. Ryan has also completed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Student Course.
