Officers made contact with the man just before midnight. According to LCPD, the man drew a handgun and pointed it out of the vehicle window and at an officer.
The officer was able to grab the man’s gun and a struggle ensued. During the struggle the officer grabbed his on-duty firearm and shot the man. The man’s brother was inside the vehicle and was not shot or harmed in this incident. The brother has been cooperating with FDLE investigators in this incident.
The State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) were called to investigate the shooting. The officer has been placed on administrative leave during the on-going investigation.
