Early in November this year, we received a call from the radio station who has traditionally provided the advertising for the Jiffy Lube food drive. They informed us that the Jiffy Lube location wasn’t able to secure their usual sponsorship to conduct radio advertising. We received the call because we have donated so much in the past; Jiffy Lube, X-96, and the Utah Food Bank wanted to make sure they weren’t losing our assistance, since they knew the lower advertising would adversely effect their donations. Knowing the food drive is an important cause for our community, Schatz, Anderson & Uday stepped up and offered to be co-sponsors of the drive with Jiffy Lube so that the donation turnout would still be strong. And it was!
The advertising co-sponsorship cost less than the firm traditionally spends on the turkey dinners, however. We spoke to the Utah Food Bank and determined that a cash donation would better serve their needs than our turkey dinner packages. So the week before Thanksgiving, SAU sent the Utah Food Bank a check representing the difference between what we normally spend on the charitable activity and what we spent co-sponsoring the food drive. In addition to photos with the fun jumbo check, our presentation also included a tour of the new facilities, an impressive warehouse complete with a new refrigerated room for storing perishables. You can volunteer at the Utah Food Bank and even complete community service hours there. And of course, they are always open to donations big or small.
